St. John’s Parish Church

Originally being built in 1645, St. John’s Parish Church, located in the parish of St. John, of course, is one of the oldest churches in Barbados. The building as we know it today, was constructed in 1836 and offers inspiring Gothic architecture as well as captivating history lessons to be found in the cemetery. For instance Ferdinando Paleologus, a descendant of Emperor Constantine the Great or Thomas Hughes, who was buried standing up at his request. The biggest draw here, however, is the scenery. Take a minute on one of the benches and appreciate the view overlooking the marvelous East Coast which stretches from Ragged Point to Pico Tenerife.
